Creating ‘bubbly/cartoony’ smoke in maya with Arnold

After our criticism we were told it would be better and more of an achievement if we created our effects inside maya instead with other softwares, i had made my fire and smoke previously using Adobe AfterEffects as can be seen in my earlier blog posts.

I decided to try creating smoke in maya which wasn’t as difficult as i had originally thought it would be, I used an emitter, changed it to cloud particles, changed the colour with a ramp and fiddled with the settings until they looked and moved as they wished, here is my first test.

I am still working with this to give it a more orange hue to resemble fire within the smoke, i am also working with the speed so it looks like a fast explosion that fades slowly to reveal the ‘cooked chicken’ (the punchline of our film).
